Desk No. 10 · News briefings
AI news summarizer
Daily briefings and article compression. April 2026.
Perplexity Daily Brief for personalised AI-generated morning briefings (free tier available). Ground News for bias-aware multi-outlet coverage with AI summarisation. Individual article summarisation: QuillBot free or paste into Claude.
§ I.The 2026 landscape
The news summarizer category shifted significantly in 2024 to 2025. Artifact shut down in early 2024. The Bing News AI Summary, Google's AI Overviews for news, and Perplexity's Daily Brief absorbed much of the personalised news briefing use case. Apple Intelligence introduced on-device notification summarisation (not news-specific but reduces news notification noise). The current tools split into two categories: daily briefing aggregators and individual article tools.

! Accuracy warning for AI news summaries
AI news summaries have improved significantly but still carry risks. Hallucination risk is higher on breaking news where model training data is sparse. Briefings aggregate from their source selection, which may not include all relevant perspectives. AI summaries of contested news events may smooth over genuine disagreement in the source material. Always verify specific claims (especially names, numbers, quotes, and attributed statements) against original sources before sharing. Perplexity's inline citation format makes this easiest.
§ III.Common questions
Q.01Is there an AI that reads the news for me?
Yes. Perplexity's Daily Brief delivers a personalised AI-generated morning briefing based on your interests. Google News briefings via Gemini in Google News summarise top stories in a conversational format. Ground News surfaces the same story from multiple outlets and scores for political lean. For individual article summarisation, QuillBot free or the Scribbr summarizer work for any article you can copy-paste.
Q.02What replaced Artifact news app?
Artifact (the Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger news app) shut down in early 2024. Its key feature, AI-generated article summaries and personalised curation, has been absorbed into the broader ecosystem. The closest replacement for personalised AI news summarisation is Perplexity Daily Brief. Ground News fills the bias-awareness gap. Feedly + Claude integration is a popular alternative for readers who use RSS.
Q.03How accurate are AI news briefings?
AI news briefings have improved significantly in 2025 to 2026 as models have become better at avoiding hallucination on current events. Perplexity Daily Brief cites its sources inline, which is the most trustworthy format: you can verify every claim. Google's news briefings are generally accurate on factual claims but can be politically framed toward consensus positions. For breaking news, any AI briefing has a lag of hours to a day; go to primary sources for very recent events.
